Someone should have warned her. Whether it's charity mugging or the ridiculous hair offers, don't do it kids!

pieces
what a wonderful portrait. a really beautiful project by brenda, looking at her mother being active doing a variety of things.
This wonderful project is also a study of film versus digital. You may have noticed many of the photos on this blog are taken in a traditional manner, on film, For me, the colour rendition of shots such as these, a truthful representation of the cold window light, remains a compelling reason to continue with the expense of film. Next is the same shot taken digitally. The digital cameras often correct that colour rendition - it's called white balance - and they correct to an average of what the colour should be.
Personally, I like the blue one more, but actually it's nice to have the choice of both.
Special
Wonderful portrait. Liz has put her subject so at ease, this photo is a pleasure to look at.
Peter
Lovely direct portrait, even though most of the eyes are hidden in shadow, there is a strong connection.
Bex
A masterclass in photographic composition from Andy. I love the way Bex is placed at the side of the frame, and the angle Andy has chosen, low down, emphasising the length of her legs leading upwards into her face. Also, great hair!

absolutely bloody gorgeous hair says biased mother...
Another perfect use of colour. The black and white version would be lovely but not as strong, the carefully selected composition and use of opposite colours creates a strong image.
.darren
what a great combination of strong colours with monotones. This is why colour photography was invented.
.chris
If I was going to pick one photo to sum up this whole project, I'm pretty sure it would be this one. This guy really epitomises Britain doesn't he. I can't imagine him anywhere else in the world, apart from in front of a Routemaster.
Rush Hour Blues, February 23rd. 2007 : Carol Brewster Band
lovely sense of soul and expression of feeling. Fab live music shot.

Bargate
Well this photo is without a doubt the best of the bunch. These ladies look so thrilled, thrilled to be photographed and comfortable as themselves and with the photographer. Az has pretty much nailed portrait perfection here - perfect composition, perfect engagement with the subject, perfect way to make the subject so relaxed.
Bargate
Az has really covered the project brief bang on with this series. Great to see all sizes, shapes, colours, races etc. in one British town.
Bargate
Wonderful compliment to the previous two photos, this miniseries of photos taken in Southampton is a wonderful slice of life in Britain today.
Bargate
A great compliment to the previous photo. I have no idea whether these guys speak English or not, but anyway Az manages to communicate with them and get them to look comfortable.
Bargate
these next five photos from Az show the same relaxed attitude from the subjects, even from street portraits. These sharp-looking guys look so relaxed in front of the lens, a knack I would love to learn from Az.
red, white and blue
this little guy is the sun of the lady before. This portrait displays perfect use of the frame. No need to centre the subject, or use the whole frame, this is just ideal. Great choice of background too Az!
A masterclass - Cicobuff
This week we have a wonderful masterclass of portraits from az. He has a wonderful way of making all of his subjects feel so comfortable looking straight at the camera.
az displays wonderful technique with traditional medium format photography, from close up shots such as this one to street photography. And the common theme is , everyone looks so engaged and relaxed.

lomo loveliness
terrific low-fi, low light, black and white portrait. I love environmental portraiture, maybe it's because I can be nosy? Photography as a vision into other pople's existences.
Lean
Sharp yet soft, strong yet tender, I chose this portrait to compliment the one before, of a young man slightly further on in that transition to manhood.
Such an intense gaze.
.j
another wonderful portrait from Vicky.
Many people spend so much time taking photos of their kids as babies, the strength f this portrait is capturing boyhood on the cusp of manhood.
A good contact
lloyd has a wonderful eye for composition, and a wonderful eye for light.
Whilst this blog is primarily about consensual portraits, is the price of a loud phone conversation on the train photographic privacy?
Turry
Photographic Rules say don't use a wide angle lens for a portrait in case you over exaggerate certain protuberances.
Well rules are made to be broken aren't they?
0403
Like some operatic melodrama being acted out in the car park. There's some kind of story going on - what do you reckon it is?

she wore a flower in her hair
a stunning portrait, dreamy and creamy at the same time.
Sharpness and focus is so overrated.

Nadine
Wonderful work from Andy.
What I love about this portrait is, despite the fac tthat it i colour, it seems almost black and white. The choice of the red accessories adds a sharpness and another level of interest to the photo.
valentine's message
And now for something completely different, precocious youth at play with wonderfully strong images.

Look
My favourite piece so far. a 21st Century take on the Old Masters.
The light, her skin, her eyes, are so wonderful.

carly
The other end of the scale - Is this how most people take photos nowadays? A whole new era of photography.
carmen
There's a fantastic set of photos by batut of people using a variety of cameras.
This one is the Rolls-Royce of cameras, a Hasselblad.
Not an everyday occurence
or is it? Are there people around the country playing pianos in the streets? or is it just in York?

Eye on the camera
Wonderful slices of British life. What I'm really enjoying about this project is seeing people across the country, and getting a real sense of what Britain is. This epitomises it for me.

snowy swim #2
I couldn't resist blogging this one - as a compliment to the other snow day photo. Kevin says he's hardcore, swimming in the dark on a snowy beach, and I certainly believe him!
Eighty one
This wonderful portrait shows such love, between both sitter and photographer. This lady is so beautiful and carries such dignity into her later life. We should all aspire to a life like that.
Open
Face of the ages. It looks like this man's face shows every step he's alked, everything he's seen in his life.
.bernard
I know I blog Vicky's shots seemingly every week, and they seem to get better and better. People of Wiltshire, watch out, she's now asking nearly everyone she comes across to take their photo and this is Bernard the gas man.

Why don't you take our picture?
Great way of getting a great shot. Fab envirnmental portrait, a reflection of almost every High Street in Britain in 2007? This sums up Britain today to me.
