.pink lippy
i've blogged a hands only portrait before, and here is a portrait without the eyes. Whilst usually the eyes tell you everything in a portrait, I think the lipstick says it all here.
Fish and chips
Fish and Chips by the seaside on a sunny Bank Holiday weekend. Truly, it doesn't get much better than that.
Hurt.
Sometimes it happens that a photgrapher loses inspiration and simply can't get anything right.
luckily in this case, a beauty of a shot still managed to shine through. Well, I hope everyone everywhere finds their inspiration, or whatever they need to conquer that block.

This is absolutely wonderful. More glorious women this week. A superb environmental portrait - environmental in every sense of the word. This is a "composite" shot - comprised of several photos to give a full view of the beautiful lady and her interesting environment. Excellently executed too.
Penny, Nick's mum
warm and sunny, her personality shines through in this simple portrait. An excellent crop, losing the top of the head just draws us closer and works really well.

what a wonderful portrait. a really beautiful project by brenda, looking at her mother being active doing a variety of things.
This wonderful project is also a study of film versus digital. You may have noticed many of the photos on this blog are taken in a traditional manner, on film, For me, the colour rendition of shots such as these, a truthful representation of the cold window light, remains a compelling reason to continue with the expense of film. Next is the same shot taken digitally. The digital cameras often correct that colour rendition - it's called white balance - and they correct to an average of what the colour should be.
Personally, I like the blue one more, but actually it's nice to have the choice of both.

A masterclass in photographic composition from Andy. I love the way Bex is placed at the side of the frame, and the angle Andy has chosen, low down, emphasising the length of her legs leading upwards into her face. Also, great hair!

Another perfect use of colour. The black and white version would be lovely but not as strong, the carefully selected composition and use of opposite colours creates a strong image.

If I was going to pick one photo to sum up this whole project, I'm pretty sure it would be this one. This guy really epitomises Britain doesn't he. I can't imagine him anywhere else in the world, apart from in front of a Routemaster.

Bargate
Well this photo is without a doubt the best of the bunch. These ladies look so thrilled, thrilled to be photographed and comfortable as themselves and with the photographer. Az has pretty much nailed portrait perfection here - perfect composition, perfect engagement with the subject, perfect way to make the subject so relaxed.

these next five photos from Az show the same relaxed attitude from the subjects, even from street portraits. These sharp-looking guys look so relaxed in front of the lens, a knack I would love to learn from Az.

this little guy is the sun of the lady before. This portrait displays perfect use of the frame. No need to centre the subject, or use the whole frame, this is just ideal. Great choice of background too Az!
A masterclass - Cicobuff
This week we have a wonderful masterclass of portraits from az. He has a wonderful way of making all of his subjects feel so comfortable looking straight at the camera.
az displays wonderful technique with traditional medium format photography, from close up shots such as this one to street photography. And the common theme is , everyone looks so engaged and relaxed.
